Details

Üetliberg

The Uetliberg is the local mountain of Zurich. At the northern end of the Albis chain of hills, it rises 873 metres above sea level (Uto Kulm) above the Zurich districts of Leimbach, Wiedikon, Albisrieden and Altstetten. On the south side, it joins the Reppisch valley with Uitikon and Stallikon. The Uetliberg offers views over the entire city and Lake Zurich. In good weather, the distant view extends to Hohentwiel in the north and from east to south into the Glarus, Grisons and Bernese Alps.

Zürichsee

The lake lies southeast of Zurich in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen and Schwyz. The main tributary of Lake Zurich is the Linth. It comes from the canton of Glarus, flows into the lake as the Linthkanal near Schmerikon after an artificial detour over Lake Walen and leaves it as the Limmat in the city of Zurich. The lake water is of drinking water quality. Lake Zurich has the shape of a banana. It is around 28 km long up to Rapperswil, around 42 km together with the Obersee and 3.85 km wide at the widest point between Stäfa and Richterswil. Its deepest point is 143 m between Herrliberg and Oberrieden. The shore length is 87.6 km.

Türlersee

The lake is located for the most part on the municipal territory of Aeugst. The lake is about 1.4 kilometres long and about 500 metres wide. On the south-eastern shore is the Türlen campsite and lido. To the north the Reppisch river leaves the lake. A landslide at the Aeugsterberg changed the landscape at the end of the last ice age about 10000 years ago. At that time the Aeugsterberg, consisting of molasse, rose like an island from the ice masses formed by the Reuss and Linth glaciers. After the glacier melted, the pressure on the mountain flank decreased and at the same time the meltwater streams increased the erosion at the foot of the mountain. The slope lost stability, and 60 million cubic meters of rock slid down into the valley, damming the Reppisch to form Lake Türlersee.

Hallwilersee

The lake in the Swiss midlands is located in the Seetal, like Lake Baldeggersee a little further south. It is 8.4 km long, 1.5 km wide at its widest point and a maximum depth of 48 m. Its surface area is 10.3 km², five sixths of which are located in the Lenzburg district of Canton Aargau and one sixth in the Hochdorf district of Canton Lucerne. The main inflow or outflow is the Aabach, which flows into the Bünz at Möriken-Wildegg (which in turn flows into the Aare almost two hundred metres further on). Next to it, numerous small streams flow into the lake.
