Aircraft type

The WACO YMF-5D in blue-white with stars glistens in the sun. A beefy radial engine sits under the cowling, the Constant Speed Propeller is a perfect match. The beautiful biplane has probably been recently restored - one might think. A look into the cockpit of the seemingly oldtimer reveals the real year of construction. Surprisingly there is a Garmin G500 glass cockpit with a lot of "touch screen's" installed. Suddenly it becomes clear that this is not a nostalgic classic, but a brand new aircraft. Built in 2018.

The special feature of the YMF-5D with its 300 HP Jacobs radial engine is a three-seater uunlike most biplanes. Two passengers can let the wind blow over their heads in the open cockpit in front of the pilot.

"Eve's kiss" is certified for instrument flight (IFR). Equipped with its 72 GAL "long range" tanks she can fly almost 5 hours in a row. She has a "smoke" system isntalled, so she can conjure wonderful lines in the air at air shows. With its modern LED headlights it is one of the only open cockpit airplanes with which moonlight flights with night landing are possible.

Manufacturer

WACO Classic Aircraft Corporation is the name of the US company from Battle Creek in the US state of Michigan that builds the YMF-5 biplane. The first planes were produced in 1919 and are now manufactured according to original construction plans. Today, this classic presents itself as one of the most noble sports aircraft the world has to offer.

Number of seats

Pilot + 2 passengers

Please be aware that the space available in the biplane can be classified as "comfortable" and that you may sit rather close to an angel - disguised as a human being. The biplane is equipped with double steering and can also be flown from the front cockpit. The "stick" has been removed to provide you with more comfort. For acro flights and on special request of guests and pilots who would like to fly themselves, I will gladly reinstall it.

History

"Eve's kiss" has already had an eventful history, unseen by its tender age. She flew from Chicago to Boston (and back again). She has seen the American Great Lakes in all directions. She was eye to eye with the New York skyline and confidently took her place among business jets. She visited the Niagara Falls and accompanied snorting steam locomotives, which climbed up Mt. Washington on the steep rack railway. She flew through cloud and rain walls under IFR and conjured up the first night landings with her modern LED lighting system. She played with the clouds during numerous acro lessons along the coast of Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod. Actually I wanted to fly her home to Switzerland from the USA. I decided not to do this adventurous project due to the advice of the WACO veterans. So the plane crossed the big pond from Chicago to Europe in what was supposed to be a safe container. This went not that well. The wings were so badly damaged during the journey that she was immediately returned to her birthplace in the USA in the container. She was given two brand new wings, some wounds were repaired and after successful test flights she flies better than ever before. Now she has finally arrived at her home. At home in Birrfeld, she is looking forward to showing many flight-enthusiastic passengers and pilots the wonderful planet from above on her future sightseeing flights.
